max_width_phone=&#8221;&#8221; max_width_last_edited=&#8221;on|desktop&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>\u00a0Edmondsley is situated in the township of Chester le Street, 5 miles from Durham City.\u00a0 Coal mining once provided the village&#8217;s main source of employment, but the last mines in the area had closed by the mid-1980s. It\u00a0 borders the parish&#8217;s of Waldridge and Sacriston, along with the rolling landscapes over Waldridge Fell.\u00a0 It has a population of 559 at the 2021 census.\u00a0 It is a very small village, but has a large surrounding area, covering Blackhouse and Twizell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.4&#8243; text_font=&#8221;Roboto|300|||||||&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; text_font_size=&#8221;15px&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;1.8em&#8221; max_width=&#8221;493px&#8221; max_width_tablet=&#8221;100%&#8221; custom_padding_last_edited=&#8221;on|desktop&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It consists of a post office, which is the hub of the village, the Parish Hall, which the Parish Council own and run, a local primary school and a garden nursery.\u00a0 Just on the outskirts is Mini Moos, which is an all weather attraction, who specialise in super cute miniature animals &amp; massive play activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In recent years, there was development of the reed beds water filtration system.\u00a0 The water from the Congburn river used to run through the old mine workings and bubble-up copper red in colour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were experiments done in various sites throughout Europe, but eventually Edmondsley was chosen as the best place to site them.\u00a0 It worked brilliantly, as all the \u201crusty\u201d water has disappeared.\u00a0 The coal board owned the field where the reed beds are now sited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The old streets of houses in Blackhouse were demolished in approx 1979 and then Jubilee close; Edmondsley was built, mainly to house the occupants of these properties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also, a Chapel used to be sited along the road from Rose Cottages \/ Appledore Gardens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are bungalows there now which were constructed in approx 1980\/81 and they are (more or less) built on the old site of the chapel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Parish used to host two public houses, the Fleece and the Charlaw, unfortunately both have closed in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;
